In 2017, ISArchitects and NOMAArchitects won together the competition to design a new education centre and auditorium for the French Institute in Lomé, Togo.
Located in the low-density embassy district of Lomé, the landscaped site is part of the Institute compound. It benefits from the intense equatorial lighting and from the presence of the seashore. The shadows of the vegetation canopies and the seashore winds influence the sustainable design approach for the building.
The building materials are simple ones, all easily available in Togo. They are derived from sand, clay and laterite.
The twin brief calls for some education spaces and a performance place (auditorium/theatre) surrounding a foyer or entrance area. The building organisation is laid out according to an overall scheme including a future central garden linking the whole masterplan.
The project will be complete in 2023.
